Oversized is everywhere now - but there's a big difference between a tee that's cut oversized and a regular tee two sizes up. One stacks clean over shorts and holds its shape rep after rep; the other looks like you borrowed it. Here's what actually makes a good oversized gym tee, and the five we'd put our name on in 2026.

What makes a proper oversized tee

  • Fabric weight (GSM): 200+ GSM minimum, 220+ ideally. Lightweight cotton can't hold a boxy shape - it clings and collapses. (Full breakdown in our GSM guide.)
  • Cut, not size: a true oversized pattern is wider through the body with dropped shoulders and a shorter, boxier length - more width, less length. Sizing up a classic tee gives you length you don't want and shoulders that sit wrong.
  • Combed, pre-shrunk cotton: combed yarn resists pilling; pre-shrunk means the drop shoulder still sits right after ten washes.
  • Reinforced seams: shoulder-to-shoulder tape and twin-needle stitching, or the neckline sags by winter.

Our five picks for 2026

1. The Ark Oversized Tee - the benchmark

The Ark is our flagship boxy cut: 220 GSM combed cotton, dropped shoulders, cropped drop, shoulder-to-shoulder tape and side-neck ribbing. It stacks clean over shorts or joggers and comes in black, blue and white.

2. Signature Oversized - the everyday

The Signature runs the same wide-and-boxy pattern with bold back print. If you want one oversized tee that works in the gym and out of it, start here.

3. Mighty Joe Oversized - the statement

Mighty Joe is a tribute to 1920s strongman Joseph "The Mighty Atom" Greenstein - old-school strength culture on a modern heavyweight cut.

4. Black on Black Oversized - the stealth one

Black on Black - stone-washed 220 GSM carded cotton, tonal print, zero shine. The most worn-in feel of the range straight out of the bag.

5. Whatever's moving in the full range

Drops rotate through the year - the full oversized line-up lives in the 4018 Oversized collection.

Sizing an oversized tee

Take your normal size for the full oversized look. If you're between sizes or want it closer to a relaxed fit, size down one - the cut is already generous through the chest and shoulders. More detail in our oversized fit guide.

FAQ

Is an oversized tee just a bigger tee?

No. It's a different pattern: wider body, dropped shoulders, shorter boxy length. A sized-up classic tee gets longer, not boxier.

What GSM should an oversized gym tee be?

200 GSM minimum; 220+ is where the drape and structure live. Under that, the shape collapses.

Do oversized tees shrink?

Cheap ones do. Pre-shrunk combed cotton (all our oversized tees) holds its cut wash after wash - warm machine wash, low tumble.

Are oversized tees good to lift in?

Yes - the dropped shoulder and wide body give full range of motion overhead, and heavyweight cotton doesn't cling when you sweat.
